The council is now busy to compile the National Register of Social Scientists in Bangladesh. A sub-committee, set up by the council and headed by the Member, Socio-economic Infrastructure Division, Planning Commission has already worked all the details in this regard. It is proposed to complete this register by the year, 2004.

Research Program...

While researchers carry out the research, institution and funds are necessary to support research efforts. Hence it is not only the orientation of the researchers but the nature of research institutions and sources, conditions and levels of research funding that determine the contents and direction of research activities in a country. Bangladesh Social Science Research Council has not only encouraged social science research, but has done so with state patronage. Since its inception BSSRC has been running a very elaborate research programme, which is divided into four different categories. These are:

  1. Promotional Research—for young researchers to enhance research capability;

  2. M. Phil. and Ph.D. Research—to encourage local universities/ institutes to carry out  higher studies programme like M. Phil., MS and Ph.D on domestic issues of Social Sciences, so that development of local expertise and the process of indigenisation of social science is ensured;

  3. Senior Fellowship—for retired and senior level professors, bureaucrats as well as highly capable persons in the relevant field who wish to work on a problem whose social science content is high and who, in the opinion of the council are qualified to conduct such research; and

  4. Institutional Research—for institutions engaged in research in the field of social sciences. The objective of the scheme is to encourage   qualitative interdisciplinary research to improve the social science inputs into policymaking, planning and development.

Application for these research grants in prescribed form are invited each year by the Council through advertisements in the national press.
